The Volpe family
My grandfather Giuseppe opened Volpe's in 1987, a year after the family arrived from Calabria. He couldn't speak much English, but everyone in Altona North learned the word for "fresh."
My dad took over in the nineties and added the pasta bench. Now it's my turn. I still make the ricotta the way Nonno showed me β by hand, before the doors open, every single day.
We're not the cheapest. We're the place you come when it has to be good.

The things we make ourselves β they sell out, so get in early.
Slow-roasted herb porchetta, crackling, salsa verde, crusty roll.
Hand-made before open. Once you've had it fresh, the tub stuff is ruined for you.
